About the Artist
Marylu Wellwood grew up on the coast of Massachusetts among many lakes, ponds and beaches. Observing the movement and moods water creates, she attempts to capture and preserve those feelings with art.
After spending 15 years on the Canadian west coast with her husband, she relocated with her family to West Gardiner, Maine.
Although mostly self-taught, Marylu studied drawing at UMA in Augusta, Maine and enjoyed nearly 20 years teaching decorative art for Gardiner Adult Education. She has participated in several local art walks, exhibited in many local businesses, plus recently participated in an episode of the Maine Cabin Masters show.
The Augusta area benefits from six murals painted by Marylu. At the Stockholm museum in northern Maine, she painted a potato harvest mural for their farm display.
Marylu’s goal is to capture the mood and beauty of different places. Many of her paintings reflect her time exploring lakes, oceans, and countryside. She lets her viewers step into a different day to feel the mood and beauty each one brings.
Marylu currently lives in Litchfield and is represented by the Gallery of Maine Art in the Evergreen Hotel, Augusta.
